(August 2014) The Library now receives a copy of Business Westcourtesy of a local resident. This includes the Annual 2014 Resource Guide. The Library again has access to online versions of multiple newspapers. This access allows for access from home or office. For more information inquire at the Reference Desk. (September 2013) The Library subscription to Business West has expired. This publication is not currently avaiable. It can be purchased at larger area book stores. Some articles from the bi-weekly publication are available online at www.businesswest.com . The print version of Value Lineis no longer available at the Library due to the annual cost in the hundreds of dollars per year.
(February 2013) The Library provides a number of newspapers and magazines for the public. The Library receives The New York Times (Monday - Saturday) as a result of a gift of the Friends of the Southwick Public Library. In addition the Library subscribes to the Springfield TheRepublican and The Westfield News. The only area business publication BusinessWestis available for reading at the Library through a subscription provided by a local resident. The Library also maintains copies of minutes of some town committees and boards. Ask at the Reference Desk for assistance. Thousands of publications are available online at no cost 24 hours per day. Free copies of the Reminder and the Southwick Suffield Newsare available to the public at the Library (inside the front door). A limited supply of paper tax forms are available and most tax forms are available online. The Library can assist you in downloading tax forms for only the cost of the copy. Ask at the Reference Desk for more information.
(July 2012) The new fiscal year does include a reduction in the number of newspapers available online for libraries statewide. The Springfield Republican, Berkshire Eagle, etc. are no longer avaialble online. The Southwick Public Library has the Republican, BusinessWest,The Westfield News and Southwick Suffield News in paper format. These papers are kept for a short period of time only. The Friends of the Southwick Public Library provides The New York Times (Monday - Saturday) in paper format. The Boston Globe and New York Times are available online.
(May 2012) As a result of changes made by the Mass. Library System (MLS) and the Mass. Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) the selection of newspapers available from the online databases available statewide may change effective July 1, 2012. It is expected that regional newspapers including the Springfield Republican, the Berkshire Eagle and BusinessWest will no longer be available online via the Library. As more information becomes available it will be available it will be available from the Reference Desk at the Library. This is outside the control of the Southwick Public Library and is expected to impact all public libraries statewide. _____
The Business Center currently includes magazines, books, books on CD and other materials. For a list of business publications the library currently subscribes to ask at the Reference Desk. If you are interested in contributing to the Library to fund subscriptions please contact the Library staff.
Business Westa bi-weekly publication has been added to the Library collection as a result of a gift of a local resident.
The Library is a free Wi-Fi hotspot open and available to the public. The Library also has a self-help coin operated copier (black & white and color). Desktop computers with Internet access are also available. Residents can bring into the Library Internet enabled devices (notebook computers, netbooks, etc.) to access the Internet, the Library catalog, etc.
Online research of newspapers and magazines is available from the Library or from home/office via the Library website (with a code number available from the Reference Desk). The magazine and journals available are in the hundreds from a number of sources.
Learning Express is also available. This resource assists those studying for positions in public service, real estate examinations, GED, computer skills, etc. For additional assistance with career development and job hunting click here for a product available at the Library or from home as of February 1, 2010.
